Animal Protein vs. Plant Protein

Not All Protein Is Equal

If you listened to the latest hype from the media pundits and whatever fake ass celebrity/big ass Kardashian is peddling chemical-laden pretend animal foods made from plant matter, you’d be convinced that plant protein is an adequate source of everything you need. You'd think it would make you a beautiful, sensitive, eco-friendly pseudo-elitist who brings a beyond-whatever to a barbecue to show just how ethically superior you are. But… you’d also be wrong; wrong when it comes to the environment (that’s a whole different article for a whole different day) or your health.

Animal Protein

Animal protein is more readily digestible than plant proteins and have several amino acids and peptides that are not present in plants. Plant proteins are not only deficient in, or void of, certain amino acids, but they also contain what are called antinutritional factors. These include trypsin inhibitors, lectins, and tannins, which kill protein hydrolysis and amino absorption which is already suspect at best. In addition, animal proteins are accompanied by vitamins and minerals that are either not present in plants or are largely biounavailable, especially with the lack of accompanying fat in vegetables. Do you know how many fart-producing legumes you’d have to eat to get the protein and other nutrients in a day’s worth of beef? We don’t know either, but we know it’s an ass load (pun intended). Strive to get 1 gram of quality, grass-fed, grass-finished animal protein per pound of optimal body weight every day. This isn’t just an easy and delicious way to get proper nutrients, but it’s also highly satiating and makes overeating incredibly difficult. Focusing on animal protein first is an easy way to optimize your nutrition and body composition, as long as you get adequate fat to deliver your fat soluble vitamins… A, D, E, and K. Can you say “ribeye"?
